Peace In the Pacific
The signing of the Australia-Japan pact is a very important step towards security of the Asia-Pacific area.
The security pact with Japan will be signed by John Howard today. The signing of this pact will make Japan Australia’s closest defence ally after the US. Japanese forces will train alongside Australians for peace-keeping and disaster operations.
Both countries are looking towards the future and putting the past where it belongs, in the past. The past won’t be forgotten, but it is time to move on…together.
Australian troops guarded Japanese engineers helping to rebuild the war-torn southern area in Iraq and a close partnership followed, assisting in the forming of this landmark security pact.
The pact will allow enhanced intelligence and security operations in the Asia-Pacific area.
