The Marines, VS Berkeley

The Marines, VS Beserkley

I don’t know if you folks have been following this, but it is worth paying attention to.

As a Southerner, I have watched the Berkeley vs. U.S. Marines brouhaha with a very keen interest. I’m not all that sure those people in Berkeley know what can happen to people who decide to mess around with the United States government.

Somebody really ought to clue those folks in with a little reality check.

This is worth a close read.

It would be hilarious if all PGR riders from across the US would converge on Berkeley and giv’em hell.

Here is some more action you can take.

UPDATE: Berkeley, California city officials met Tuesday night and REFUSED to issue an apology to the Marines!

Additionally, they also neglected to rescind their earlier resolution giving the radical left-wing organization Code Pink a parking space in front of the city’s Marine Recruitment Center and a noise permit.

So it appears that the harassment of our brave men and women in uniform will continue in Berkeley with the tacit blessing of city officials!

The City Council — after hearing criticism from you and tens of thousands of your fellow patriotic Americans — did however vote to rescind the letter they approved a couple of weeks ago calling the Marines “uninvited and unwelcome intruders.”

While this is a small victory, apparently Berkeley city officials think that patriotic Americans like you will simply go away and not bother them anymore based on their half-hearted action.

But if they really supported our troops, why did they VOTE DOWN a motion to apologize to the Marines and why are they continuing to sanction the harassment of our brave men and women in uniform?

Berkeley leaders — and other lefty city officials across America — need to know that half-hearted actions and crocodile tears simply are not enough!

We need to intensify our campaign in support of Senator Jim DeMint’s legislation to cut off Berkeley’s earmarks and give them instead to the Marines.

Use the link below to send your urgent and personalized Blast Fax messages to President George W. Bush, Senator Jim DeMint, and the GOP leadership of the House and the Senate.

Adopt a Hero for Christmas
BAMC Visit and Present Delivery
December 15, 2007

December 15, 2007 Christmas Ride to BAMC:

This event is what it’s all about.

All the planning, fund raising efforts, donations and shopping lead us to where the rubber meets the road. On Saturday December 15 we will depart from Katy and bring Christmas gifts to our wounded soldiers and their families at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

We will visit our herosand their families at the Family Assistance Center at Fort Sam Houston.

Please see our web site http://AdoptAHero.info for all the details, and especially for the protocol for entering a military base.

We are going rain or shine. If foul weather, then cages. This is an event not to miss, folks. To bring some Christmas joy to our heros and their families is a special honor. We discovered last year that often times the gift giver ends up himself receiving something very precious.

You may get more details at: http://www.AdoptAHero.info on how to donate.

GIFTS: You do not need to bring gifts. Your attendance is a huge gift it self. Or you can donate ahead of time if you wish or bring gifts with you. All gifts should be un-wraped and from the “Gift suggestion list” on the web site.

Car Pooling is being coordinated.

Contact Honda Bob for details.

Please RSVP to Honda Bob if you plan to participate.

RIDING IN MEMORY & HONOR OF ED “OLDIRON” BARRETT,
……………………………….. Gone But Not Forgotten! ………………………………..

Saturday the 10th

The Texas Honor Ride (THR) is this Saturday the 10th.

All the funds raised go to support our wounded soldiers at Brook Army Medial Center (BAMC) in San Antonio.

If there is a big turn out the THR may double the amount they raised last year.

The ride leaves from the Park and Ride on the NE corner of I-10 and Hwy 6 just south of Park Row.

A staging area will be set this week near Park Row for the PGR members to meet at and ride in together.

This is so we may ride to San Antonio together in a group.

As we have ridden many missions together this will allow you to ride this long distance

next to riders you know and feel comfortable with rather than a group of strangers who you have no idea of their riding level.

To register on-line for the THR click on the link below:

Register Now !   (After Thursday you have to register on site, print out the form here)

This year BAMC is allowing all able wounded soldiers who can to come to out and have lunch and meet with the riders.

Please join us as we support our heroes with the THR.

Ride Captain:  JohnnyD        email: johnnyd@setexaspgr.org

WELCOME HOME

Ed “Oldiron” Barrett was a gentle man with a heart as big as his shadow in the late afternoon sun.

He was affectionately called “Uncle Ed” by those close to him.

Ed’s love of motorcycles goes back at least 50 years.

His wife and three daughters have many fond memories of their motorcycle adventures.

Like all of us that ride, most of those experiences were good, while others would have to be chalked up as learning experiences.

Although Ed was not a veteran, he was one damn proud American.

Ed’s involvement with the Patriot Guard Riders began the first week of January 2005

when he rode with three other members in freezing temperatures 350 miles from Dallas to Wheeler, TX for his first of many Missions.

Ed soon became a Ride Captain and organized some of the PGR’s most memorable Missions.

He later volunteered for the position of Assistant State Captain and also held collateral duties as a Forum Moderator.

I considered Ed to be my friend, mentor, confidant and most importantly, my brother. I will truly miss him.

There will be Police from all over the state in attendance as well as the Houston PD Honor Guard and many of local PD’s S.E.Texas area that we have been working with for the last 2 years. Because of this LEO participation, our normal efforts will be along side the various LEOs.
