In Iraq-A Political Tipping Point

For those of you following the latest action in Iraq, You know that the GoI has been going after the Sadr criminals. This is a first test of the IA, IP and ISF. They did well, with a little help from our air support. They are definitely learning. The following is from Pajammas Media by Mohammed from Iraq The Model. (Same article)

Iraqi PM Nouri al-Maliki has been presented with a golden opportunity to build on political cohesion and bolster the rule of law by dismantling the Mahdi Army.

I think what encouraged Maliki to push the limits of the conflict to this unprecedented level was the first-of-a-kind success of the Political Council for National Security — an entity that includes the president, PM, and leaders of major parliamentary blocs — to reach consensus on a decision. This entity managed for the first time a week ago to overcome the impotence that had halted its mission since its inception. Evidence of the newfound potency of this entity is that Ayad Allawi, who had refused being part of it for a long time, is now sending delegates to negotiate terms for his membership.

I think that the tipping point has been reached. The Iraqis have intelligent, educated leaders who know we may not be there in a couple years. They read our news feeds and really do fear that the Dems will force our military to abandon them sooner than later.

Lets hope reason rules.

Current Iraqi Leaders

Here is a source of information on the top Iraqi leaders.

Leaders

They all seem to be well educated and experienced.

Michael Yon in the WSJ

Michael Yon has a new piece in the WSJ. “Let’s ‘Surge’ Some More” A good read…Wish the Dems could.

Iraq Reports

Here is the latest from Michael Yon

and from Michael Totten

Lots of good pictures!

Iraq: Al-Qaeda Killing Field

Iraq: Al-Qaeda Killing Field

If any of you wonder still, This is why we are in Iraq.

ZAHAMM, IRAQ — Villagers digging in an abandoned pomegranate orchard in the Diyala River Valley have unearthed the remains of at least 52 people murdered by Al-Qaeda in Iraq during its two-year reign of terror in the area.

This almost made me sick reading it. Al Qaeda are sick and need to be exterminated completely from this life. Warning, this will be unsettling.

Americans DO Support the Troops

I don’t know if you’ve seen the trailers, but there has been a film advertised for the last few weeks that I had absolutely no intention of attending. Apparently, I wasn’t the only one.

From Nikke Finke’s article partially entitled: “Stop Loss DOA“:

Friday’s No. 7 Stop-Loss fell a spot to 8th after it opened to only $1.7 million Friday and Saturday from a limited 1,291 plays. It eked out a $4.6M weekend. Although the drama from MTV Films was the best-reviewed movie opening this weekend, Paramount wasn’t expecting much because no Iraq war-themed movie has yet to perform at the box office. “It’s not looking good,” a studio source told me before the weekend. “No one wants to see Iraq war movies. No matter what we put out there in terms of great cast or trailers, people were completely turned off. It’s a function of the marketplace not being ready to address this conflict in a dramatic way because the war itself is something that’s unresolved yet. It’s a shame because it’s a good movie that’s just ahead of its time.”

I added the bold. Why? Because apparently absolutely NO ONE in Hollywood has the slightest idea why this movie is and will forever be a flop. Let me lend them a clue:

It is a flop because no one wants to see an ANTI-WAR movie while we’re still losing our children in that war.

You block-headed Hollywood types need to get out of your bubbles and talk to some real people… like the people who won’t be buying tickets to see this loser. They’ll tell you that they won’t tacitly oppose the troops by supporting drivel such as this.

You want a hit movie about Iraq? Try doing something about an American Soldier who has to save some Iraqis, keep his buddies alive, dodge the anti-military left, and still make it home to marry his girl and pet his dog.

You know… show them as the heroes and patriots and the best that America has to offer.

Or maybe (and this is the real problem)… you don’t know.

Senator Obama…Negatives are coming into the light

A spotlight has appeared and many negatives are being uncovered.

For starters, read Lasky’s article in American Thinker.

There have been several articles showing his wife’s anti-American comments, his pastor’s anti-American sermons, and more. Feel free to pile on.

Here is a Laskey update

Here is more from a Pastor.

From WSJ online: Here is more.

Here are a whole list of AT’s articles on Obama.

Add on any more you find.

Not Presidential Material IMHO.

This guy is poison.

Update: Here is an analysis of Obama’s denial of his ties to his pastor. Pretty slick lawyerly doublespeak.

And another one.

New Michael Yon Dispatches

The dispatches are un-edited as he works on the go.

RUBs: Dinner with General Dubik 02/12.

RUBs: 13-Feb-2008 Today in Iraq

Good progress being reported.

The next posting from Michael J. Totten

Michael J. Totten is back with another post about the transition going on in Iraq.  Again a good article with some very good insight.

Below are a few blurbs from his article… again a good read I would suggest for all

The United States military plans to formally hand over Anbar Province to the Iraqis this spring because the insurgency truly is finished in that part of the country. Most Americans have heard about the success in this province by now, but few seem to be aware that the cities of Anbar were the scenes of the most ferocious fighting: Ramadi, Haditha, and – worst of all – Fallujah.

“We’ve already seen a pretty significant difference,” Specialist Brian Henderson said. “When we first got here and went on patrols with the guys from the Dubat station they were just looking around. Now they’re trying to work on their intervals, their staggers, the stuff that we’ve taught them. They’re putting this stuff into play more and more.”

“That’s one of the things we do here,” Specialist Alan Martin said. “This station is pretty well-established. Someone takes account of all their weapons. They had problems with Iraqi Police giving their weapons away to family members because they thought they were gifts. Same with vehicles and stuff like that. Now they’re keeping a count of them and making them sign for them, letting them know they’re accountable.”

The food at these stations in terrible. You’re lucky if you can scrounge up a microwaved hot pocket or pizza. Usually we were stuck with tasteless and over-cooked “chow” that spent months or even years in cardboard boxes stacked in the pantry. Steaks are cooked in boiling water. Corn is canned, of course. The macaroni and cheese is so bland it doesn’t even work as plausible comfort food. Barbecued ribs are all bone. Meals in Iraq prepared by Marines at small stations gave me a real appreciation for food served in the gigantic D-FACs (dining facilities) at Camp Fallujah. And food at Camp Fallujah’s D-FACs makes dinner at Denny’s sound awesome.

Embedding with the military in Baghdad and Fallujah has given me a deeper appreciation for the comforts of modern civilization than I would have thought possible when I was younger.

Also he has posted a story about Moammar Qaddafi’s son Seif al-Islam and a link to an old photo tour of Lybia, and if you think that they are on our side you are wrong…

Just a couple of stories that we need to keep our eyes on ….

Iraq the Model-An update

Omar and Mohammed have resurfaced after several months of silence. They are in the US going for their advanced degrees. I have been following them since Saddam was deposed.

Hello my friends! We feel terrible about not writing anything all this time.
Mohammed and I are both doing fine, I’m doing fine at school as well, my grades from the first semester weren’t exactly impressive but I’m quite satisfied given it was the first semester and I had to adjust to a completely new system.
