In the last couple of decades, news organizations have taken to disguising facts for reasons that I don’t really comprehend. Were I publishing a newspaper, my goal would be greater accuracy and clarity. What follows is a guide to help you decipher what you read in the news pages, or see on TV news:
Youth - in France, this means “Islamic men who are rioting, possibly burning cars, and maybe firing weapons.”
South Asian - in the United Kingdom, this refers to Muslims. It can sometimes be used for anyone from India or Pakistan, but typically it means “Muslim.”
MI5 is very worried about the links between Pakistan and the three bomb plots in Britain since July 2005, and that means it is crucial for them to recruit more south Asian agents.
Insurgent - from Reuters, this means “Muslims who are killing others in the name of Allah or Mohammad.” I would just say, “Terrorist,” which I define as anyone who intentionally targets innocents for political gains.
Murderer or terrorist - in all news articles, this means anyone who kills a reporter. This is the only method known to turn an insurgent into a terrorist in the modern media.
Extremist - Anyone who thinks that the Daily KOS is not fair and balanced; has not placed FoxNEWS on their blocked-stations list; votes republican; thinks independently, or has a job. No known democrats fit this description.
Right Wing Extremist - Redundant phrase.
Progressive or moderate - the opposite of an extremist. It includes everyone who works at CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, and most other news outlets that are not specifically financially-centered or FoxNEWS; anyone who works for a democrat campaign; anyone who supports abortion rights, denies gun ownership rights, or thinks traditional marriage is evil.
