    Wino:

    Happy Easter, everyone.

I hope to have at least one post up this weekend…

Sorry for the long absence. Work has interfered.

The Mrs. and I made it to the IHOP morning social, but apparently after everyone else had left. We arrived just before 10:00 am, but found no one from the HS hemisphere.

I’m trying to decide if that is a good or bad thing.

    american woman:

Wino, I think they meet at 8 so surely by 10 all world problems are solved! I am going to try to pop in some time, but kiddo was here this weekend.

Happy Easter….. he has risen. It is also Passover. A special time for Christians and Jews.

  3. 3
    Katfish:

May the blessings of the Resurrection follow you all through your days………….

    *HE is RISEN!*

It isn’t Passover but Purim…….I am so ignorant…. but blessings to my Jewish friends also.

    The Dude:

    Wino,

You missed us by ~ 1/2 hour. AW is right. We meet up at 8:00 am. Most of us have stuff to do on weekends with the family, so we try to meet up early so we can go on and do our respective things. Hopefully we’ll see you at another one or at a Faux Deaux Deaux. Doh!

  6. 6
    Wino:

    The Dude,

We got there as soon as we could. We had stuff to do at 0800, so just went by the IHOP, “just in case.” We really didn’t expect to see anyone, but figured we had to eat, and MAYBE someone would have still been there.

We weren’t really surprised that we had missed y’all.

    Mrs. Wino:

Good morning all. Happy Easter and what ever else one celebrates. :)

    Kent,
Our prayers are with you and only hope the best will come to you.

    AW,
I know you must be glad to have the kiddo back on American soil. It’s definitely a feeling of relief.

Off to getting stuff done since it won’t be raining after all today.
    Have a great day everyone.

    KentBook:

Happy Easter to all– May the blessings of our Saviour be uponall of us. He Is Risen!

Thanks to all as well for your good thoughts & prayers; and a special Thanks to the many that have stuck their necks out to help me during this trial for Marsha & me.

I don’t want to jinx anything, but I may have a good offer tomorrow–at least that was the VP, that I’ve been working with that Marc’s brother helped get in touch with me, said Friday PM–he didn’t say “good”, so much that he is working with me to get those things I need & want. Now, that’s an answer to a prayer–hopefullly, the other issues will fall because of it, but it will still be a narrow thing in the very near future for us to get through. Don’t stop praying.

Again, Happy & Blessed Easter to everyone, and Thanks!

    KentBook:

Also, Mr. & Mrs. Wino–It looks as though I won’t be able to attend the Faux Deaux Deaux, but perhaps, we might make it for the Wedding (?)–is that date set?

Another aside, and a reason, that I haven’t been around much.
When not working on current job, or looking/researching opssibilities for others (JIC); I am plodding through the editing on my novel using my “Style” software. It is very exactly (which is good for me), requires much more thought than the original writing–which is how I write (get the thoughts and story down, then do cursory and preliminary edit for typos, punct, etc.)–it takes about an hour to go through 1 page in Word.

If any are interested, let me know via e-mail and I’ll send you the novel from the start.

  10. 10
    Mrs. Wino:

    Kent,
I hope our prayers are answered for your sake. The Lord does definitely answer our prayers. The wedding will be the 24th. of May. We would love to have you and Marsha at the wedding. Please send Wino your address etc. the invites will be going out within the next couple of weeks. Thanks.

  11. 11
    KentBook:

Thanks, M.W.–Good, sounds like we might make that–again, hopefully with changes in the near future. I’ll send Wino my address (as of now, anyway). Thanks for the invite and we’ll look forward to meeting everyone from the 3 blogs (most are the same folks, just different names).

    Wino:

    Good morning, everyone!

I got my project one huge step closer this weekend. I’m ahead of my already-short schedule, now!

    Yes, I’m happy!!!

Edit: It was the Mr., not the Mrs., who posted this… Ooops.

    bweldon:

Good mornig all, Had a some quality family time this Easter weekend, Oldest Daughter came home with a fantastic new quilt that she and her Grandma made. According to Grandma, most of the work was done buy my daughter and that includes using the quilting machine that she has. I’ll try to post some pictures soon.

I think when all is over in Iraq, we will have a different view of the whole thing. Read this:

    Iraqi Documents Show al-Qaida Ties

There are over 600,000 documents that have not been translated yet.
I hope they find WMD orders as time goes on.

  16. 16
    american woman:

Marc, I think they will find orders. A dictator who used them before, isn’t going to just stop his program.

Bweldon, I bet the quilt is beautiful. I’m looking forward to some pics of it. But, they didn’t hand quilt it with those tiny little stitches?

  20. 20
    bweldon:

AW nope they used a machine, for 2 reasons, 1 little hands and not enough time, but you should see the machine it is huge. but can do so many things.

Ok AW I will be by to pick you up around 7:00 on the 29th. I will call you when I leave to head your way. You cannot see the wedding dress for Mrs. Wino but you can see the sample flower girl dress on Charlise. Take into consideration that this was the sample dress just for sizing but the dress will have a black sash and black tiny flowers on it instead of the red that is in the photo. Can you tell that Jennifer caught her in one of HER poses and the flash in the mirrors. :) Wino it isn’t bad luck to see the flower girl’s dress. :-)

Great Emme, I will see you at 7 on the 29th. OMG Emme she is beautiful in that dress! She is a princess. I think she knows she is a princess too! Good for her!

Thanks AW for the nice comment and will pass it on to Charlise. Jennifer and Charlise should make it to the Faux-Deaux-Deaux™ just not sure the time they will get there. ;) Great photos bweldon.

Intersting article about people jumping ship when it comes to the election if their candidate does not get the nomination, Look at the comments and you will see how “stupid and blind” some people are ….

    american woman:

Bweldon, she is a beautiful child. You are blessed. The quilt is spectacular.

I am amazed to announce I had a pair of goldfinches at the feeder today. The male is brilliant yellow and black, and this is the very first time this has happened here. They are gone and I never get stragglers. Word must be getting out about the Cypress buffet. Anyway this was a gift today.

  30. 30
    marc:

AW, Stormy thinks they may be another variety, like lesser Goldfinch. Picture? If the back was yellow it was American. If Black, it could be the Lesser. They keep their gold through the winter.

  31. 31
    american woman:

Marc I was thinking along the same lines as Stormy, but no! These are American goldfinches with the only black on top of head. Male and a female. I wonder if the weather this year has them staying around here longer? Anyway, it was exciting!

  32. 32
    american woman:

This immature warbler I have is driving me crazy. I’ve now decided it’s a pine warbler. Does the bill keep growing? It’s just now coloring up, and it’s beak is shorter. It’s all by itself, and eats most of the day. I don’t see how it can eat sunflower seeds with it’s tiny bill, and bought some other seed today to see if that would help……. just a mixed bag of smaller seeds.

  33. 33
    Mrs. Wino:

    Emme,
Great picture of Charlise, she is going to be gorgeous in the wedding.

    BW,
Great quilt. I haven’t seen one like that before. I actually made one myself, it only took 2 years. :) It’s a nine block, for those that know anything about quilting. Maybe I will put a pic of it up sometime. Good experience for your girls. It’s also, an accomplishment after all is done. Wheeeeeeeeee….

Hope to see some new faces Saturday night at the Feaux Deaux Deaux…

    gtotracker:

    AW,
You drop by this site so I will post this here. I know what the response at LST would be and see no point in posting there. From about 1976 to 1984, I spent many weekends sailing my Dad’s Cal-24 all over Galveston Bay in most any weather. I knew a few San Leon shrimpers, some from other areas, and had a first hand view of the Vietnamese moving into the bay. The increased number of shrimp boats was obvious, as was who was trailing who’s wake to find shrimp. That was stealing some one’s intellectual property, but they were only bay trash shrimpers with no rights. All those years learning where to shrimp, only to have federally financed and protected competition literally brought out of the blue.

To say the Vietnamese took over Galveston Bay shrimping by working their butts of for low wages is, to put it mildly, over simplification. Jimmy Cahter gave the Vietnamese guaranteed 4% government loans to buy boats. Everybody else paid 12% and even higher interest on loans at the time. The Feds also twisted TP&W’s tail to issue more licenses so the Vietnamese could shrimp. The locals were faced with increased volume and low financed competition. The Vietnamese lived on their boats and ate the bycatch and/or what was illegal to catch to survive. Even the Chron had an article or two about bird drop and turtle soup found on Kemah boats. That was hard for American families to compete with. I also remember anger at Reagan for not ending Cahter’s program.

On the flip side, a few of the shrimpers I met bragged about the clunker tubs they unloaded on the Vietnamese. Those boats sure came back to haunt. All water under the bridge today, but glib dismissals of why local folks lost a family business piss me off.

Herman, thanks for the lessons in life, and where ever you are may your nets always be full.

    Today in history,

The little blue pill was approved by the FDA…. where would we be without Viagra…

    http://newsletters.aetv.com/cgi-bin15/DM/y/hbub0Jjdzi0B6y0jmj0EX

On this day in 1998, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approves
use of the drug Viagra, an oral medication that treats impotence.

Sildenafil, the chemical name for Viagra, is an artificial compound
that was originally synthesized and studied to treat hypertension
(high blood pressure) and angina pectoris (a form of cardiovascular
disease). Chemists at the Pfizer pharmaceutical company found,
however, that while the drug had little effect on angina, it could
induce penile erections. The reaction took about an hour, a little
longer if the pill was taken after eating fatty foods. Seeing the
economic opportunity in such a biochemical effect, Pfizer decided to
market the drug for impotence. Sildenafil was patented in 1996, and a
mere two years later–a stunningly short time compared to other
drugs–it was approved by the FDA for use in treating “erectile
dysfunction,” the new clinical name for impotence. Though unconfirmed,
it is believed the drug was invented by Peter Dunn and Albert Wood.

Viagra’s massive success was practically instantaneous. In the first
year alone, the $8-$10 pills yielded about a billion dollars in sales.
Viagra’s impact on the pharmaceutical and medical industries, as well
as on the public consciousness, was also enormous. Though available by
prescription only, Viagra was marketed on television, famously touted
by ex-presidential candidate Bob Dole, then in his mid-70s. Such
direct-to-consumer marketing was practically unprecedented for
prescription drugs (now, sales and marketing account for approximately
30 percent of the pharmaceutical industry’s costs, in some cases more
than research and development). The drug was also offered over the
internet–customers needed only to fill out an “online consultation”
    to receive samples.

An estimated 30 million men in the United States suffer from erectile
dysfunction and a wave of new Viagra competitors, among them Cialis
(tadalafil) and Levitra (vardenafil), has blown open the market. Drug
companies are now not just targeting older men like Dole, but men in
their 30s and 40s, too. As with many drugs, the long-term effects of
Viagra on men’s health are still unclear (Viagra does carry warnings
for those who suffer from heart trouble), but its popularity shows no
signs of slowing. To date, over 20 million Americans have tried it,
and that number is sure to increase as the baby boomer population
    continues to age.

  36. 36
    american woman:

Good afternoon Ya’all! What a splendid day it is. Haven’t seen the goldfinches anymore. I guess it was a one day stop on their trip.

Sophie killed a rat! I took down a hanging feeder to refill it, and Sophie went nuts smelling around it. I jokingly said you smell a rat, took off the lid and voila……. much to my chagrin. I took the feeder from the patio to the edge of the yard, and tipped it over. The rat runs out, Sophie gives chase. The rat turns towards me. I think, I think I should have thought this out more, cause I am scared, but the rat turns again and she has it …… what a killer dachsund.

  37. 37
    Mrs. Wino:

Way to go Sophie. Another one bites the dust…

Emme pulled that trick LAST year as I recall……………

As much as we’d love to see many of yall - life just keeps on dealing too much “stuff” to keep up with…………we’ll be partying along with yall in spirit!

  41. 41
    bweldon:

here is a good one for the girls..

  42. 42
    american woman:

Good afternoon! Wheee it’s Friday. Are any of you going as delegates tomarrow to Grace Church? Meet at the fountain, if you are, after registering.

As I sat on the concrete floor of my patio tonight with a hammer and sunflower seeds, I chastised myself for helping this little warbler along. I know Nature selects and those who aren’t strong enough, don’t make it. But, he seems to be having difficulty cracking seeds. I am probably prolonging the inevitable. So I cracked seeds for him, and put them in the feeder. It took him about 15 minutes to find them, and I checked a bit ago, all cracked ones are eaten.

  43. 43
    marc:

AW, A bird’s main goal in life is cracking seeds. If a chickadee can crack a large striped sunflower seed, your warbler is probably doing it out of sight. Our chickadees carry a seed up to a big limb and whack away at it. Takes a while, but they are back for more shortly.

BTW, PetsMart usually has bags of hulled sunflower bird seeds. You could add a handful every day. The Inca Doves love them too, and they are gluttons!

  44. 44
    american woman:

Excellent idea Marc, I’ll go get some hulled seeds for him. I hope I’m not seeing him crack them, but he doesn’t fly. He just sits at the feeder for very long periods of time. He sorts through the seeds like he’s looking for cracked ones. He looks shabby. His little head feathers stand on end. He has a spikey do! hehe. Hopefully, I am worrying for nothing.

Emme, I will see you tomorrow night at 7 …… looking forward to the get together

  45. 45
    Wino:

I’m looking forward to the do-do, as well. Don’t tell Nancy, though. She thinks I’m going to be good.

    Ssssshhh! It’s a secret.

  46. 46
    stormy:

Aw: Do you just have sunflower seeds in your feeder? Maybe the warbler is really preferring something else? And it might be looking shabby because it’s moulting (or because it’s sick, but you never know). What kind of warbler is it? Can you tell?

  47. 47
    Mrs. Wino:

Looking forward to seeing as many of you all tonight as possible. Of course, we know Wino won’t be good… :) Have a great day… Later.

  48. 48
    Mrs. Wino:

A Big THANK YOU goes out to all of you for coming to our Faux Deaux Deaux. We had the HeadShaker himself with his wife, Emme with her Daughter and the gorgeous Mascot, Marc and Sally, American Woman, 64 NovaMan and his wife, and a special surpise from DJ (Mr. Foil Hat).

Had a great time. The chocolate covered strawberries were a hit thanks to Wino. A special thanks to Headshaker for the Flying Saucer Pies and the Argentine wine form Marc and Sally.

    Photo’s come later.

  49. 49
    american woman:

Ah Mrs.Wino, you beat me to a comment about the great gathering. It was absolutely wonderful being with everyone! Great people, great spirit, great minds. A special thanks to Emme for picking this ole broad up and delivering her home safely. Thank you for having me.

  50. 50
    Mrs. Wino:

Hee Hee AW. :) You are so welcome and we need to get together more often. I’m so glad Emme offered to pick you up. Thanks Em.

  51. 51
    Wino:

    Oh… and I *was* good. So there :P , Mrs. W. ;)

  52. 52
    emmekelley:

Mornin all, another day that God has given to us.™
I had a wonderful time, it wasn’t even bad being the designated driver, (JK) either with the great woman that AW is and having her ride with me. Anytime we need to help AlGore and his scam of global warming I will carpool any day. :) I am looking forward to having more times together with great people like this group. Now to get Jennifer to send me the photos so I can show everyone how much fun we had. Have a wonderful day.

  53. 53
    Katfish:

    Yo Marc - Michael Yon’s apparently moved……….

Editor’s note: Cleaned up the link. Click to see Michael Yon’s article.

  54. 54
    stormy:

    Wino, Mrs Wino -

We had a great time! It was wonderful to see everyone again, along with the few less-familiar faces (though I think we had met everyone before).

With over half the group driving in from points WAY West, 64novaman suggested that we have a gathering at Repkas and do crayfish! I think that’s a great idea, but we should probably plan it for an afternoon, as they get really crowded on the weekends, AND because it gets really dark out there at night (no streetlights).

Anyway — it was good to see everyone again — and we’ll look forward to the next FauxDouxDoux wherever it may be!
