Americans DO Support the Troops
I don’t know if you’ve seen the trailers, but there has been a film advertised for the last few weeks that I had absolutely no intention of attending. Apparently, I wasn’t the only one.
From Nikke Finke’s article partially entitled: “Stop Loss DOA“:
Friday’s No. 7 Stop-Loss fell a spot to 8th after it opened to only $1.7 million Friday and Saturday from a limited 1,291 plays. It eked out a $4.6M weekend. Although the drama from MTV Films was the best-reviewed movie opening this weekend, Paramount wasn’t expecting much because no Iraq war-themed movie has yet to perform at the box office. “It’s not looking good,” a studio source told me before the weekend. “No one wants to see Iraq war movies. No matter what we put out there in terms of great cast or trailers, people were completely turned off. It’s a function of the marketplace not being ready to address this conflict in a dramatic way because the war itself is something that’s unresolved yet. It’s a shame because it’s a good movie that’s just ahead of its time.”
I added the bold. Why? Because apparently absolutely NO ONE in Hollywood has the slightest idea why this movie is and will forever be a flop. Let me lend them a clue:
It is a flop because no one wants to see an ANTI-WAR movie while we’re still losing our children in that war.
You block-headed Hollywood types need to get out of your bubbles and talk to some real people… like the people who won’t be buying tickets to see this loser. They’ll tell you that they won’t tacitly oppose the troops by supporting drivel such as this.
You want a hit movie about Iraq? Try doing something about an American Soldier who has to save some Iraqis, keep his buddies alive, dodge the anti-military left, and still make it home to marry his girl and pet his dog.
You know… show them as the heroes and patriots and the best that America has to offer.
Or maybe (and this is the real problem)… you don’t know.

Excellent post Wino. I suggest you send your comment to the ” reviewers” who are so pompous. It’s time they hear from a blogger. Not that they don’t already, but you need to send this on.
