The Huckabee/Carter Comparison
I’ve seen it in more than one place by now. Likely a lot of you have as well.
This is the kernel of Huckabee’s foreign policy. He wants to anthropomorphize international relations and bring a Christian commitment to the Golden Rule to our affairs with other nations. As he told the Des Moines Register the other day, “You treat others the way you’d like to be treated. That’s to me the fundamental issue that has to be re-established in our dealings with other countries.”
This is deeply naïve. Countries aren’t people, and the world is more dangerous than a Sunday church social. Threats, deception, and — as a last resort — violence must play a role in international relations. Differences cannot always be worked out through sweet persuasion. A U.S. president who doesn’t realize this will repeat the experience of President Jimmy Carter at his most ineffectual.

I will concede that the “attack machine” is at work with regard to Mike Huckabee, but I think there are some serious questions Mr. Huckabee needs to address before anyone should even consider him as a serious possibility for presidential material. I won’t vote for Mike Huckabee. I don’t think he’s good for America. Grassroots appeal is all well and good, but there has to be something of substance to back it up, and I just don’t get that from Huckabee. There are people that I believe in their hearts are morally good people, but that just don’t have the right stuff to be effective leaders. Mike Huckabee is one of them.
I think Fred Thompson would be an effective leader. He has outlined (in a serious, adult manner as befits such things) very realistic plans on how to deal with what I consider to be the most serious problems facing us as a nation. Please consider not only voting for Fred Thompson, but donating some money to his campaign.

The more I hear about Huckabee, the more I am inclined to think that he should be president of the Salvation Army, not the United States.
I don’t want someone (else) using my tax money for charity purposes. How about getting the government back to what it says in the Constitution, but with a little sanity?
(That last phrase sorta tells why Ron Paul isn’t currently on my top tier of candidates.)

Agreed on Ron Paul, Wino. He’s actually at the absolute bottom of my list of Republicans I’d even consider in the general election. The sad thing is, there are Republican candidates who I rate even lower than Ron Paul. I have decided on three that absolutely will not get my vote in the general election:
1. Rudy Giuliani
2. John McCain
3. Mike Huckabee
What does that say about them that I’d even consider voting for a loon like Ron Paul before I’d consider voting for them? Honestly, I feel that the above three have strayed far enough from conservative thought (as I perceive it) that there is no way I could in good conscience vote for them. If any of those three are my Republican choice I will skip the box without a second thought.
And agreed on Huckabee 100%. The last thing we need is another compassionate conservative. I’m ready for one who can be a tough enough SOB to know when to say “no”.

I agree with you guys. Fred may act laid back, but that is his personality. I don’t think he is easily perturbed. I couldn’t see him in a screaming rage like HRC or McCain. I like his planning. I don’t see any concrete plans that make sense from the rest.

Now having read the editor’s note, I can appreciate the need for such. But I think it could be reasonably assumed that any post by any individual contributor here speaks for that contributor and that contributor only. If I implied that my post in any way reflects anything other than my personal opinion then I do indeed apologize.

The Dude,
I added the note, because you put in the button link, and you’re also an editor. I wanted to make it clear that you were talking as a person, and not as a FauxNEWS associate. Nothing more.
If people had common sense, would coffee need temperature warnings, or irons need “don’t iron clothes you’re wearing” warnings?
One of my favorite quotes:
“One lawyer starves where two lawyers prosper.”
I want Fred to be a little more forward… he’s a bit too laid back.
McCain is on my “Do not vote” list. I think he is the only one that would cause me to skip the box. I’d vote for just about anyone else, were he running against her royal thighness.

Oh I understand why you have to do it. One of the saddest things I’ve ever seen was a written warning on the discharge end of a wave runner:
“Do not place mouth or anus near the discharge of this watercraft.”
Apparently somebody did at one point and rendered it necessary to print such a warning. Lord help us.

I agree with all of the above.
But Wino I would of said to your quote….her royal thunder thighness. Only because when she comes into a room it sounds like thunder is rolling in.
