Adopt a Hero for Christmas
BAMC Visit and Present Delivery
December 15, 2007
December 15, 2007 Christmas Ride to BAMC:
This event is what it’s all about.
All the planning, fund raising efforts, donations and shopping lead us to where the rubber meets the road. On Saturday December 15 we will depart from Katy and bring Christmas gifts to our wounded soldiers and their families at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
We will visit our herosand their families at the Family Assistance Center at Fort Sam Houston.
Please see our web site http://AdoptAHero.info for all the details, and especially for the protocol for entering a military base.
We are going rain or shine. If foul weather, then cages. This is an event not to miss, folks. To bring some Christmas joy to our heros and their families is a special honor. We discovered last year that often times the gift giver ends up himself receiving something very precious.
You may get more details at: http://www.AdoptAHero.info on how to donate.
GIFTS: You do not need to bring gifts. Your attendance is a huge gift it self. Or you can donate ahead of time if you wish or bring gifts with you. All gifts should be un-wraped and from the “Gift suggestion list” on the web site.
Car Pooling is being coordinated.
Contact Honda Bob for details.
Please RSVP to Honda Bob if you plan to participate.
MISSION PLAN: We will travel to a American Legion Post in San Antonio for Lunch ( 166-miles ). During this trip we will stop once for Gasoline/Rest. After lunch we will be go to the Family Assistance Center at Fort Sam Houston (BAMC).
After all visits have been made, those that wish to return to Katy will travel together. As a group we plan to start the return at 3:00pm. This will put us at the west side of Katy as it is getting dark. If you wish to return earlier then you should make your own arrangements.

SURPRISE WELCOME HOME
USMC SGT SCOTT PATRICK BRADLEY
Dickinson, Tx
Dec 15, 2007 |
 |
| This event has been planned by Scott’s mom, Janet Bradley. Janet has so much to celebrate — Scott has completed two tours in Iraq, one tour in Japan and has completed his service with the US Marine Corps (Scott will be retiring in February) Scott also became a DAD on November 15. So as you can imagine, Janet is thrilled that the PGR will be part of this celebration. Janet Bradley has not even told Scott’s wife about what is going on as she wants this to be a COMPLETE SURPRISE!! We will not be greeting Scott at staging, as the mom wants to surprise her son by having all the motorcycles rumble down a very long driveway to this event. We have been invited to stay, visit with Sergeant Bradley, have a meal, as well as listen to the band. We will be escorted by a minimum of 4 Dickinson police officers to the destination. Let’s thank Sergeant Bradley for his multiple years of service, congratulate him on his upcoming retirement, as well as being a new dad! Please be sure to bring a parking puck as there may be a need for you to park on the grass.MISSION PLAN: Since this is going to be a total surprise, we will leave staging and ride to Scott’s home where we will surprise him as well as his wife and new baby!!!! Will take approximately 20-30 minutes to make the distance from staging to Scott’s house. LEO Escort WILL be provided by the Dickinson Police.

Christmas for the sand box
As many of you recall we had a Christmas drive last year and again in July for an Army Company in Iraq. This year we were asked to stand down because the two companies are not able to receive mail at this time. There has been a lot of POSITIVE feed back from YOUR past efforts and when we can again help out we will let you know. Please keep all of the soldiers that are in harms way in your prayers for the Christmas season.

Flag and Water Support Vehicles News
We sent out a call for help with our Support Vehicles. Several of you responded and we thank you. We would like to insure that we have adequate support so that we have a strong team that does not exhaust anyone.
If you have a truck available and can assist on a rotation or even occasionally - YOU ARE NEEDED. We especially need a Truck Volunteer on the North Side of town.
We also need volunteers on “Missions” to help with passing out flags, water and getting things back in the truck when Missions conclude. Please check in with the Support Truck upon arrival at Missions.
Please contact JohnnyD & Boomer at: Leadership@SETexasPGR.org
Confused by our terms and abbreviations:
There is a Glossary of terms in our web site under the “Mission Protocol” tab.
Weather:
There is always a chance of bad weather in SETexas. You should review the weather reports so you are prepared. Preparation also means YOU must insure that you are properly hydrated and medicated (based on our doctors instructions). You must also expect a weather change if the mission is lengthy or a long distance from your home. Therefore you should bring what ever you need for the changing weather conditions.
If the conditions make it unsafe for motorcycles, cages are welcome.
For Newbies:
The SETexasPGR web site contains a lot of information regarding what we do on a mission and how we do it. the link on that page is “Mission Protocols” (include a glossary of terms). This can be reviewed by anyone at any time. You should also review the “Safety” page. Additionally the home page contains all information about upcoming missions.
Some of the common questions are:
What do I wear?: Dress respectfully and comfortably. You will be outside in the elements. Motorcycle leathers is common. And bring rain gear.
What to bring?: Water and a snack, we will have some down time at various times. t funerals we have a forward element moving to the cemetery with the flags once the service starts. This can be a long day.
What do I do?: Follow our lead, you will do fine, just bring a heart full of respect for this fallen hero. Instructions will be provided at staging on driving in a procession. While holding a flag, you should remain silent and keep the flag pole vertical at all times (no dipping ever), only role-up and un-role the flag on the poll while AT the support vehicle. Get a helper to make the role-up neat.
Iron horses if you have them, cages are always welcomed. |
