The turkey is thawing….. so is the chicken for one pan of dressing. I’ll stew the chicken tomarrow and make the jello salad.I know it’s that lime jello salad but my family loves it. Sis is bringing the pumpkin pie and beef and noodles. We’ll have turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry-orange sauce, beef and noodles, lime jello salad, sage dressing, oyster dressing , hot rolls and pumpkin pie…… plus all the Christmas candy and cookies. Diet……. uh uh not on Christmas Day. We will go see the lights tomarrow night in Preston Wood. We have done this since kiddo was tiny. After we get home, we each open one gift. It’s to tantalize us for what comes in the morning.

    Enjoy your traditions. Merry Christmas.

Oh Mr.Fish, you already have had a productive morning. What is it with frozen turkey. The darn thing has been in the fridge since Sat. morning and still isn’t thawed. I don’t care about the fear of bacteria…… as always I end up letting it sit out to thaw.

There were 7 goldfinches for first feed. They hang from wire, and anyting they feel like hanging from. Upside down is fine with them. They fly straight up. What a hoot to watch them.

No-one picked up their E-Christmas card yet. I thought at least Mrs Wino would click. O well, Merry Christmas all of you. Stormy got me the Visual WordPress 2 guide and the new O’Riley XHTML book. I may have to go into hibernation for a while.

We are going coastal again the 26th, God willing, and if the van makes it both ways. Rockport/Fulton, and whatever else looks interesting this time of year. We should be back by Saturday. Wino owns moderator.

Today was a wonderful Christmas day for us. We spent lunch, and afternoon, and til 4:30 or so at my Brothers house in Pearland. Just him, wife and youngest (Beautiful) daughter Katie (23 YO). No screaming kids this year.

Katie finished her PA medical training and is now a surgical assistant. Her boss has offered to cover 1/2 of her schooling if she will go back to school and get her RPA and RN certifications. That is just cool.

We all had a really good time talking about things from the past, current family things, and the coming year. It was the most relaxed get together we have had in many years. Good food, good wine, and good company. Can’t do better!

No snow/ice on the ground this year. It made the trip shorter time wise this year.

I do hope your Christmas was as wonderful as ours.

Good Morning! It’s time to think about New Year’s Eve. Any plans? Kiddo and I are hatching some. Kiddo went to her Dad’s yesteday afternoon for her second Christmas, and puppy Eddie stayed with me. He did just fine. He searched for her in the house some, but when it came time for bed, settled down at the end of my bed for the night. This dog is no problem. He just needed attention.

    Wino:

    Belated Merry Christmas, everyone!

  12. 12
    The Dude:

Merry Belated Christmas! Better late than never, eh?

My son got one of these (not from us, though). Seems like a cool idea, but I’m not really convinced of its usefulness.

  13. 13
    Katfish:

Dude hey jes my 2 centavos - I’d be layin in the weeds for the very next time the son balks at cleaning his room and THAT ‘thing’ would be the very first item in the trash!

  14. 14
    Mrs. Wino:

Happy Belated Christmas to all. It has been a fun filled weekend through Christmas day. We had all the kids and grandkids for Christmas. Zoe had a blast with all. We will post more picks later.

Needless to say it was not pleasant waking up to the alarm this morning knowing I had to go to work. Oh well, have to make money, to spend money! :)

Marc, I did look at the card, Merry Christmas to you and Sally. Thank you for the chocolates.

Now, it’s time to recoop for New Years. Party time.

    The Dude:

    Katfish,

I think old Nabaztag (ours is named PAR) freaked my wife out this morning. He’s still in the living room for now, and when he woke up he started in on the daily weather forecast. I was already gone to work and she wasn’t expecting an automaton rabbit to start telling her stuff. Heh heh. Wish I’d been there to see it.

  16. 16
    american woman:

I think Par is cute. He wouldn’t last long with the pooches, but it’s a clever idea.

Mrs.Wino, yesterday was tough……… 4 days off then back to the salt mines. It’s slow in my business. Commercial work still is going, but not a lot of flooring being laid during the holidays.

Mornin all, another day that God has given to us.™
Hoping everyone had wonderful times, food, and gifts that they wanted. Thanks everyone for the wonderful greetings and card. Our family gathering was wonderful with the shrimp etoufee on Christmas Eve and Mexican food on Christmas day, I ate way too much.

    american woman:

Emme kiddo and I make all kinds of cookies and candy at Christmas and give to our neighbors. Ray’s little boy across the street in the middle of the block, was outside and thanked us. I asked him which ones he liked the best and he said the star. Those were sugar cookies , decorated. I told kiddo then, when this is over, he’s getting the rest of the sugar cookies. Well, it’s over. Today I am giving him what’s left, and dumping all the rest of the stuff. We will be too tempted and don’t want to put on the pounds we have struggled to remove! hehe. Except for the turkey, the rest is going down the disposal. Poof! I make way to much.

    american woman:

Good Morning! It’s warmer and drippy in Cypress and it’s also Friday!!!!!!! Wheeeeee. Annnnnnd I found out yesterday we are closed on Monday…….. yayyyyyyyy. For New Year’s Eve I think Kiddo and I are going to The Hop to ” trip the light fantastic”

    marc:

We are back home safe and sound, but tired.

We took the “Skimmer” boat tour out of Fulton, TX into ANWR again, and this time got really close to some Whooping Cranes. Wonderful tour!

I will put a post up here with our best pictures. We saw over 30 (NEW) different bird species on the trip. Don’t think we got pix of most, as they were too quick. This was fun!

  21. 21
    Wino:

    marc,

I’ve been outside Aransas, but never entered the wildlife refuge. How long does the drive take? I know there aren’t any decent hotels in the near vicinity.

  22. 22
    american woman:

Good Morning! Marc, I am looking forward to seeing the pics. There isn’t a decent hotel near there?

I’m off to work the day labor site. It’s getting interesting.

    Mrs. Wino:

Good Saturday morning to all. Wino and I are on our way out to run errands and all. Have a great day. Just in case I don’t get time to get back on before the new year, Happy New Year to each and everyone of you Faux Deaux Deauxes!!! :)

Drink and be merry, but be careful and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do. :)

    marc:

The closest hotels/motels are at Fulton/Rockport. ANWR is about 45 min. away.

This is where we usually stay.

It took us about 2-1/2 hours to get there from Brookshire. We take the backroads, so it may be quicker to go all highway. We just enjoy the drive much better that way.

The ANWR auto tour takes a couple hours if you go slow and look for wildlife There are lots of scenic and wildlife trail stops.

  26. 26
    marc:

The “Skimmer” Birding Tour is about 3 hrs. long and covers the refuge from end to end. Cost $ 40/person. Worth every penny. Captain Tommy knows his birds and where to find them.

Back and chilled to the bone. It was an interesting morning at the picket line. I was so grateful not to see the pitt bull there today. Last Saturday, when I wasn’t there a couple of different times, cars veered into us and sent us scattering. This week we were ready for them. When the first car veered into us, and took off, we had two guys sitting in vehicles ready. They blocked them in up the road and called the police. I don’t know the outcome, but will get it in email. We had heard there were 4 groups meeting with LaRasa today to take care of us permanently….. once and for all…….. Nothing happened. My sign read ” Honk if you are tired of your tax money supporting illegal immigrants. There was a lot of honking :)

    american woman:

Good Morning….. brrrr it’s chipper. We’ve made the reservation for New Year’s Eve. It’s THE HOP once again. Hope it’s as much fun as last year.

There were 15 goldfinches I could count yesterday. But they are fast lol.

Marc, I am going to have to go down there and take that tour one of these days. It sounds awesome.

They have nothing on Moose Jaw

After having dug to a depth of 10 meters last year, New York scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 100 years and came to the conclusion that their ancestors already had a telephone network more than 100 years ago.

Not to be outdone by the New Yorkers, in the weeks that followed, California scientists dug to a depth of 20 meters, and shortly after, headlines in the LA Times newspaper read: “California archaeologists have found traces of 200 year old copper wire and have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced high-tech communications network a hundred years earlier than the New Yorkers.”

One week later, “Moose Jaw Times Herald”, a local newspaper in Saskatchewan reported the following:

“After digging as deep as 30 meters in sagebrush fields near Moose Jaw, Ole Johnson, a self-taught archaeologist, reported that he found absolutely nothing. Ole has therefore concluded that 300 years ago, Saskatchewan had already gone wireless.”

    Morning all,
I found some time to get on and say “Hello”. :)

Wino and I will be at Sherlock’s Pub near the tollway on Westheimer in the Carillon Center for New Year’s Eve. They are having an awesome band called “Madigan’s”, come join us if you like. It will definitly be a great time.
