Brazos Valley B.A.C.A.’s 1st Adoption
I’m proud and honored to be a member of B.A.C.A.’s Brazos Valley chapter. After our ‘Mission Statement’ please read of our very 1st chapter adoption:
“Bikers Against Child Abuse exists with the intent to create
a safer environment for abused children. We exist as a body of Bikers to
empower children not to be afraid of the world in which they live.
We stand ready to lend support to our wounded friends by involving
them with an established, united organization.
We work in conjunction with local and state officials who are
already in place to protect children.
We desire to send a clear message to all involved with the abused
child that this child is part of our organization, and that we are
prepared to lend our physical and emotional support to0 them
by affiliation, and our physical presence.
We stand at the ready to shield these children from further abuse.
We do NOT condone the use of violence or physical in any manner,
however, if circumstances arise such that we are the only obstacle
preventing a child from further abuse, we stand ready to be
that obstacle.”

Our chapter Prez ‘7-up’ 1st heard of ‘Gemogirl’, ‘Angel’, and ‘Navyboy’ sometime in
November when Houston chapter Prez ‘Scrappy’ called to ask if we’d like to get involved.
Bay City TX in Matagorda County is a bit far flung for the Houston chapter.
7-up jumped at the chance and asked for any available riders to join along
for the initial contact visit (2 ‘patched’ members are a required MINIMUM
for any client family contacts). Myself, V.P. ‘Stretch’, secretary ‘Outlaw’,
and 7-up headed south from Sealy
to find a small frame house in a tiny and older Bay City neighborhood.
Upon 1st meeting some semblance of abuse was readily evident in the way none of
the 3 kids would look directly at us as 7-up chatted with their Mom.
Before we departed the kids had warmed up a bit coming outside to ooh & aah over our bikes.
We left that Sunday evening with a slight feeling of excitement: Our 1st adoption was
becoming a very real possibility! Fund raising and joining along on
‘other’ chapter’s adoptions is all well and good - but THIS is our primary purpose
as yet unrealized in over 2 years of our chapter’s existence!
7-up immediately called Matagorda Sheriff’s the next day to confirm this was, in fact,
an ‘active’ case (the only type we can participate in when invited).
This was verified by Sheriff’s who were pleasantly surprised to learn of BACA’s existence.
(part and parcel of our ‘work’ is to “get the word out” to local CPS, LEO, and D.A. entities
so they can know we are not just a “gang” and are available to help -
perhaps the largest hurdle we must face day in & day out)
A second family visit was planned to set up the adoption - NOTE: Gemogirl (15) & Angel (10) are the
victims - Navyboy (11 going on 30) is a step or half brother and while not a victim we let
him also pick a ‘road name’ along with the girls so as not to leave him feeling left out.
If a child cannot or doesn’t ‘pick’ a road name the chapter will pick one for them in the
interest of anonymity & security for the family. Details of abuse are not discussed openly
or deeply as too much information can easily disqualify BACA from participation - way
too easy to become a “witness”(with resulting ‘conflict of interest’) instead of an advocate.
The second visit found the children REALLY excited to see us return even briefly to their
lives - they remembered EACH of our names and of course again our bikes! This trip included
myself, Sgt of Arms ‘Chips’, and Prez ‘7-up’. We shuddered at the new revelation shared by
Mom that Sunday evening: The perp had actually attempted to contract 4 MURDERS in
exchange for a car as payment! His intent was to ‘eliminate’ the problem fostered by his
hideous and prior abusive actions. Two article links from the Matagorda Advocate below:
This news while incredible is a blessing in that county officials have now put this case on
“the fast track” - this SCUM should go to trial in 90 days and is being held with NO BOND.
Chances are very good that he won’t see the light of day again until “our kids” are
parents or grandparents themselves!
Sunday December 9 couldn’t arrive soon enough - the word was out and
several chapters let us know they’d be riding along with our small group.
Staging at a local EZ Mart found 35 bikes, and a couple of cages had shown up to join
in the fun - 1 member from as far away as the Houma Louisiana chapter!
We reconnoitered our route and determined a small neighborhood route in case
the kids chose to have a small ride on ANY bike they chose as long as it had a
backrest for safety.
At 2 pm sharp we rumbled 35 strong into that narrow dead end street only 5 houses long.
A small enough street that with our bikes ‘angle parked’ on both shoulders there
wasn’t room for even a small car to pass. Houston Chapter immediately set out ’security’ personnel
at both ends of the street to ensure our adoption would not be interrupted.
Only residents of that block would be allowed to pass through.
The kids and Mom were dressed in their ‘best’ and overjoyed at seeing us roll up.
Our arrival rumble brought all neighbors out to bear witness. We presented each of the 2 victims
with a BACA plaque announcing them as new and permanent members of our family, a vest each
with BACA patches sewn on, a 5′ x 7′ BACA blanket (suitable for snuggling under or hanging on a wall),
and our BACA teddy bears (we made sure to bring ‘Navyboy’ a vest also so he could feel included).
One by one we pass around the 2 bears and hug them right in front of the kids so they can see
we’re ‘filling the bears up with HUGS’ - the kids are told that ANYTIME they feel scared
they have our power & love right beside them in those bears and if they ever feel like
the bears power has diminished to just call us and we’ll cmon over and fill them back up!
One by one each BACA member lined up to introduce ourselves to the kids and jokingly
remind them they have a LOT of new names to remember! Most every member also gives
a pin or patch for the kids’ new vests - some patches or pins from long ago-far away rides and some new.
Then it was time for the kids to pick a bike out for a ride! Even Mom got to pick one.
I’m HONORED that ‘Angel’ picked my ‘Gracie’! Helmets were produced for each passenger
and we took a short, slow ride through the ‘hood with “4 corner security” bikes along - 2 in front
and 2 behind. Angel rode like quite the seasoned vet with both arms high over her head and
yelling at the top of her lungs every time I slowed a bit to let the bikes in front get a wee bit ahead
so I could ‘goose’ Gracie’s throttle and give that thrill of sound and acceleration that all riders love.
You’d have thought Angel was on a roller coaster at Astroworld!
Finally it was ‘picture time’ - BACA does NOT shoot photographs - this is strictly verboten
in the interest of continuing security but we can and did shoot group photos on Mom’s camera
with each kid choosing the ‘group’ they most wanted in each photo:
“all the lady riders”
“all the guys”
and “the whole group”. Finally it was time to say good-by. We rolled out of the ‘hood’ and re-staged
at the EZ Mart for de-briefing. All agreed the adoption was a HUGE success and heartfelt thanks
were exchanged for our BACA brothers’ and sisters’ participation. Brazos Valley will make regular
phone calls and monthly visits to this family to keep them assured their new ‘family’ will
NEVER forget or forsake them. I am so DAMNED proud to be a part of this awesome
organization and I hope I’ve provided some insight as to what BACA is all about.
MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR from BACA to all of you!

Marc no renegade here - I had planned to use that “shortening function” this morning as I seem to recall your prior comment that you’d leave a long one intact for a while to let folks read uninterrupted before abbreviating. THNX for the edit sir!
(what didja think of our story by the way?)
